Attachments: ConceptsTopic number: 1425412100299
Attachments are used to collect and communicate information about the patient, order, report, or study.
Attachment categories and types
Four categories of attachments are available: Patient, Study, Order, and Report. The following types of attachments are available:
- Text—Text attachments can be, for example, study comments, clinical information, patient remarks, or report remarks. Two types of text attachments are available: field and message board. A field has one text box for all information. A message board shows sequential text boxes.
- Keyword categories—Keywords are labels that can be applied to patient records, studies, orders, or reports. For example, study keywords could be “Poor image quality” or “Teaching study”. Adding keywords facilitates identification and searching of studies.
- Hyperlink—Includes related hyperlinks, such as clinical information on the web related to the study or static links to other systems. For example, a direct link to the electronic patient record (EPR) can be added to the Patient info section. Permanent hyperlinks are configured by your administrator. Custom hyperlinks are added and modified by users.
- PDF/Image—Images usually include scanned request forms, or scanned
questionnaires signed by patients.
Note:
To show responses from scanned questionnaires in patient records, the information must be manually typed. - Voice clip—An alternative to text attachments. For each voice clip, we recommend that you add a text title to enable identification without opening the clip.
- User—These attachments allow you to link users and contacts registered in Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging to an order, study, patient, or report. User attachments are used for the types of users and contacts that are unknown in healthcare standards (such as peer learning case submitter).
Where attachments can be viewed
Attachments can be configured on different tabs in the Text area:
Attachment types | Linked to the attachment group | Available in |
---|---|---|
All other than PDF/Image | Report | Report tab |
All (Text, PDF/Image, Keyword category, Hyperlink, Voice clip, and User) | Study | Study tab, Acquisition tab, Peer learning tab |
All other than Voice clip | Patient | Patient info tab, Study info tab, Acquisition tab |
All | Order | Study info tab, Acquisition tab |
Together with report attachments, order, study, and patient attachments of the keyword, text (field only, not for message board), hyperlink, and user types can be included into reports, if configured by your administrator. If, in your report, you use a report section or a text macro with a database field that contains a study, patient, or order attachment, and select this attachment from the appropriate tab, its values are displayed in the report, when it is saved.
When viewing the report, select View all sections or View conclusion. The attachments can be visible when selecting View letter, only if the administrator included them in the report template you use for reporting.
Creating and managing attachments
All attachments are managed by your administrator. The administrator can create, edit, deactivate, and delete attachments.
Adding attachments
You can configure attachments to be shown or not shown in the Text area, and update them.
To add or remove attachments, right-click anywhere on a tab in the Text area and select Customize fields. Use the arrows to move keyword attachments between the Available and Displayed data elements lists.

Custom attachments
Your administrator can create attachments of a specific type, customize a name, and configure where they appear.
Finding studies linked to keywords
The main function of keyword attachments is to facilitate searching and identification of studies.
To search on keyword attachments linked to an order or study, in the
Search area , from the Keywords (all) search field list, select a value. Or, in the Keywords
(suggestion box) field, type a keyword category or value, and click Search. (You must have the permission Can
access Search area.) If these fields are not available, add them by right-clicking any
search field and selecting Customize fields.
For each available keyword, user, and text attachment linked to an order, patient, study, and report, you can also configure a separate search field in the Search area, and a column in the task and study lists in the List and Search areas.
