Measuring and segmenting volumes using the automatic volume measurement toolTopic number: 1509392978134

You can create and edit a mask for volume segmentation using the automatic volume measurement tool tool.

Prerequisite

The volume segmentation tools are available only when at least one volumetric series with a built volume is present in the current presentation group. This can be achieved, for example, by selecting a MPR hanging protocol, or by switching the render type of one of the given viewports to MPR or 3D.

To measure and segment volumes using the automatic volume measurement tool
  1. On a CT volume dataset, in the Clinical sidebar, click Volume segmentation. Volume segmentation
  2. To remove bone structures or fragments, click the Bone removal button or Bone fragment removal button. Clicking the button again displays the removed bone structures or fragments.
  3. To create a mask, select Add mask > Automatic volume measurement.

A mask is created and the automatic volume measurement precharge mode is active. The mask is selected per default.

  4. Drag the mouse to draw a sphere, where the center of the sphere is used as the seed point. Once the sphere is drawn the automatic volume measurement algorithm is executed.
  5. To modify the algorithm, scroll the mouse wheel.
    • When the mouse pointer is placed within the sphere the current mouse position is used as a new seed point for the re-execution

    • When the mouse pointer is placed outside the sphere, the current seed point will be used again for the re-execution

  6. To create a sphere, click the mouse.
  7. To finish, right-click.
If the automatic volume measurement tool is selected as an editing tool, the current mask gets cleared and the automatic volume measurement precharge mode is active.
