Adding or modifying billing codes and modifiersTopic number: 1425411828491

You can add or modify billing codes and modifiers in the Billing field of the Text area.

If your administrator has not enabled billing, no billing codes and modifiers can be set for procedures.

If your administrator enabled billing, you can change billing codes and modifiers as long as the procedure has not been canceled, completed, or discontinued.

When you open a study, the linked billing codes and their default modifiers that were saved when creating or editing the order are displayed in the Billing field, provided they:
  • Were active on the date the study was performed.

    or

  • Are active on the date you open the study, if the study was not yet performed.
To add or modify billing codes and modifiers
  1. In the Billing code field, type part of the billing code.

    Tip:

If a field you need is missing, right-click in the area and select Customize fields, then in the dialog, select the field to add.
  2. Select the required code.

If the selected performing department is configured to use billing, you must add at least one billing code that was active on the date the study was performed. Otherwise, you will not be able to complete acquisition tasks for this study.

  3. If required, add or change modifiers.
    1. In the Modifiers field, type part of the modifier code.
    2. Select the required modifier code.

The suggest box under Favorites for this procedure lists non-default modifiers if they are available for a billing code.

  4. To add additional billing codes, click Add another billing code and repeat steps 1 to 3.
Billing codes and modifiers that are added or changed are saved immediately. If the order itself is edited, for example, by changing a procedure, the changes made will be overwritten.

Required permissions: Can add and delete billing codes and modifiers. (For more on permissions, see Security roles: Concepts.)
