MUSICA processing application scopeTopic number: 1425412575359

MUSICA is an enhanced processing algorithm for CR/DR images that improves contrast and detail.

MUSICA processing concept

MUSICA is focused on the enhancement of subtle contrasts. All clinically relevant structures with subtle contrast, regardless of their size, are made more visible. MUSICA does this partly at the expense of structures with high contrast, since these will remain clearly visible even if their contrast is reduced somewhat. Thus, the relative contrast of high and low-contrast structures is altered, increasing the conspicuousness of those with lower contrast.

MUSICA processing parameters

The basic image processing is designed to render an optimal result without requiring user interaction. The processing is based on a set of packages, each optimized for specific application types, such as adult chest or pediatrics abdomen. The processing can be tuned by three parameters to match user preference, influencing the appearance of contrast, brightness and sharpness of the image.

Apart from the basic image processing, MUSICA creates a black border on collimated image areas. For mammography images, a shutter is created to darken the background of the image.

MUSICA processing on Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging

MUSICA image processing is performed on the Agfa modality workstation and the processed image is subsequently stored to Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging. MUSICA processing allows modification of the processing parameters to tune image appearance according to user preferences.

The user can process a single image or, on the Agfa modality workstation, configure default MUSICA settings in the user profile.
