Tasks: Type, priority, and status Topic number: 1425411509647

Tasks are individual jobs that form the basis of your workflow. They are generated automatically from common workflows, task assignment groups, and task assignment rules. Most tasks are created automatically; however, some are created as needed by users for a specific activity.

Available tasks

Depending on the assignment group you belong to and your permissions, you can perform (start, pause, reset, complete, cancel) the following tasks:

Task typeIconPurpose
RetakeRetakeRequesting the acquisition of additional images or the retaking of previously acquired images for specified procedures.

If, while performing the initial reading task, physicians need additional or higher quality images, they create a retake task. Usually, they add a task comment with instructions for the technologist.

Retake tasks are assigned according to the default task assignment rules.

The technologist reviews the task comment, and performs the retake task.

In the Acquisition Desktop, technologists can also create or start retake tasks for studies with images and a completed acquisition task.

Task statuses

Tasks move through various statuses in the workflow. For example, when a new task is introduced, it has a task status of Assigned. It is assigned to a user or a task assignment group based on rules. If a user starts the task, the status becomes In progress and it is assigned to that user. If the user decides to interrupt the task, they can pause it, giving the status of Paused.

  • Assigned—The task has been created and the users that appear in the Assigned to column can complete the task. This can be a single user or a group of users.
  • In progress—A single user is busy completing the task. The user has locked this task and the task is no longer available to other users. If other users also have this task in their task list, it is skipped when working through the task list in the Text area.
  • Paused—The task was paused and can be completed later on. Temporary results are saved, so that the user can continue working with them when resuming the task.
  • Completed—The task has been completed successfully by a user. It no longer appears in the To do list as the To do list contains only tasks that are not yet completed.
  • Canceled—Users can cancel only ad hoc tasks. Tasks created by the system cannot be canceled.

Displaying tasks

Tasks assigned to you and your assignment group are available in your Activities overviews. The To do list contains all tasks assigned. Other tasks lists display tasks of a specific type. For example, reading tasks, Report review tasks, or sign-off tasks.

You or the administrator can configure your Activities overviews and task lists.

Viewing tasks

To view a task without starting it, right-click a task and select Open.

You can view patient, order and procedure information, the report, and study images, if available. While viewing a task, you can modify it by adding comments or a hyperlink, change its priority or report severity, or make other modifications; the task is not started and keeps the Assigned status.

Starting tasks

To start performing a task, select it from the task list, and click the Start button (such as Start reading) on the toolbar. The task is in progress and appears in your Started tasks list. If you restart a task in progress, it is resumed.

If the option Start task is selected in Options > Lists > Double-click on study/task, double-click the task to start it. Otherwise, upon double-clicking a task, this task is opened in the Text area without being started.

Pausing tasks

You can pause started tasks by clicking Pause on the top toolbar. The task is reset and appears in your Started tasks list.

Resetting tasks

To return a started or partially completed task to its original state, click Reset. The task is ended without saving changes and reappears in the To do list of your task assignment group.

If you start performing a reading task, then navigate away without adding any content in the report sections, the task is in progress and appears in your Started tasks list. This task disappears from your Started tasks list when you start a new reading task and create a report during this new task. In this case, the previously started reading task is automatically reset and removed from your Started tasks list; it reappears in the To do list of your task assignment group.

Completing tasks

A task in progress is completed after you perform an action that triggers the creation of a task in the workflow or finishes the current workflow.

For example, when you send your report for review, correction, or transcription, it disappears from your Reading tasks list and becomes a task for your colleagues.

Canceling tasks

A reading task is canceled upon clicking No report needed.

A QC task is canceled upon clicking No QC needed.

A print and export task is canceled upon clicking No print and export needed.
