Finding studies using simple search Topic number: 1425411536291

The Search page shows the simple search options by default. To find specific studies, set search criteria to appropriate values.

To find studies using simple search
  1. In the navigation toolbar, click Search. Search
  2. If advanced search is displayed, under the search criteria, click Simple.
  3. From the In list, select the location from which to retrieve the studies.

The default location is the system database, called System. You can also search any drive mapped on your computer, including CD/DVD drives. If configured, you can search other DICOM devices or carry out an Enterprise search across any combination of internal and external systems.

  4. Type or select values for one or more search criteria options.

Available search criteria can vary with the search location selected. When selecting values, keep in mind:

    • Standard text fields such as Patient last name are not case-sensitive.
    • Standard text fields support only one value.

For example, if you type smith jones as Patient last name, you would only find patients with the combination Smith Jones (both words) as their last name. You would not find those with last name Smith (one word) or last name Jones (one word).

Also, if you type Jones (one word) you would not find patients with last name Smith Jones (both words).

However, if you type % Jones. This will return all patients with last name Jones (one word), Smith Jones (both words), and all other last names including Jones.

    • For Patient ID values, the system searches both the primary patient ID and any other patient IDs associated with the study for matches.
    • Standard text fields support wildcards. The question mark (?) or underscore (_) replaces exactly one character. The percent sign (%) or asterisk (*) replaces zero or more characters.
    • Constrained text fields such as Procedure code and Body part list valid values for selection after you type a starting character. For example, if you type H in the Body part field, then values HAND, HEART, HEAD, and HIP might appear for selection. After one valid value is entered, the text color changes from red to black, and a comma appears. You can then type and select another value.
    • Drop-down lists such as Modality type display available values with checkboxes, allowing you to select more than one value to search on.
    • The date format used in fields such as Patient date of birth is configurable. You can type the date or select it from a calendar that appears when you click in the field.
    • The Study date (period) field (if available) is also configurable, and might offer options such as Yesterday, Today, and Last week.

For some locations, you cannot perform an unconstrained search (no search criteria values selected).

  5. Click Search.

    Important!

The security filters of your security roles can restrict the search results. Security filters are evaluated every time you perform a search. They are applied before the search criteria is.

Studies that correspond to all specified search criteria are displayed, to a maximum of 1000 to 2000 studies (the maximum number is configurable). The number of studies appears at the top of the list.

    Note:

The modality listed for a study in the search results when running an Enterprise search can vary compared with the modality listed when searching other locations. Enterprise searches use the study-level modalities, whereas other locations use order-level modalities.

  6. To refine the search results, type or select more or fewer search criteria and click Search again.

To hide the search criteria pane, click Search criteria. Collapse To show it again, click Search criteria. Expand
