Protocol codes: ConceptsTopic number: 1425413866658
A protocol code defines a set of acquisition parameters used in a procedure plan step. When technologists start an acquisition task, the codes give them an overview of the acquisition parameters.
A protocol code is acquisition station-specific and vendor-specific. It is sent to the acquisition station by a DICOM modality worklist (DMWL). This code is recognized by the acquisition station and interpreted as a specific procedure with predefined acquisition parameters. These parameters are for technologist reference only. They are not applied to the acquisition station automatically.
Acquisition parameters consist of key, value, and description fields. The key can be a DICOM element or free text. The value represents the specific key setting on the acquisition station.
