Changing logging levels for specific functional areasTopic number: 1425412955860

In addition to the default application logging that logs errors and warnings, you can activate logging for additional profiles at various levels.

Logging profiles allow you to generate log files for specific functional areas. For example, logging profiles are available for QC functionality, DICOM print, Security, and Database.

Changes to the configuration of the log levels affect logging for both the client and server.

To change logging levels for specific functional areas
  1. Log into the Desktop that you want to gather logging information on, using an account with appropriate permissions.

    Note:

Some logs are gathered for that workstation only, not system-wide.
  2. Select Help > Logging.
  3. In the Logging profile column of the Logging dialog, select the checkboxes of the profiles to generate log files for.

The Recommended when column provides some information about each profile.

  4. From the lists in the Log level column, select a level for each selected logging profile:
    Log levelCreates logs of
Errors and warningsError events that might still allow the application to continue running, but can indicate harmful situations. This level is activated by default.
Normal informationInformational messages that highlight the progress of the application at a high level. This is the default level in the Logging dialog, but it is not activated by default.
Full detailsMore detailed informational events that are most useful to debug an application.
Development tracesEven more detailed informational events than the Full details level.

    CAUTION!

Higher levels of logging, such as development traces level, can adversely affect system performance.
  5. To make changes to the profile permanent, clear the Reset the log to default level after 30 minutes checkbox.

When the Reset the log to default level after 30 minutes checkbox is selected, the logging profile is reset to the default settings after 30 minutes. When it is cleared, the logging profile stays active until a user changes it on the workstation or an administrator changes it in Administrator Desktop.

  6. Click Activate. Click Close.

    Logging begins at this point.

  7. Perform tasks to gather the appropriate type of logging information.
  8. When sufficient information has been gathered, to stop logging, select Help > Logging. Click Stop.
  9. To close the Logging dialog, click Close.
